About

The Golden Oldies Rugby scene hit the shores of South Africa, way back, during 1983 and was the brainchild of the late Fred Dieterle.

The first Golden Oldies festival was hosted by The Hamilton Rugby Club in Cape Town and was a resounding success.

Shortly thereafter, The South African National Golden Oldies Rugby Association (SANGORA) was formed and the world of Veteran Rugby in the country was born.

To date approximately 150 teams from all around The Republic have affiliated to SANGORA and these stalwarts of the game come together once annually at the National Festival which is hosted by a different club every year.

The most recent National Festivals have seen close to 40 teams participating each year with this number sure to grow.

Golden Oldies Rugby is well represented in all provinces of SA and is alive and well.

Regular festivals are held in the various provinces where these Gentlemen exchange rugby skills on the field and social skills off the field.

The minimum age for players is 35 years and the maximum age is whatever you want it to be.

See: Rules & 10 Commandments of Golden Oldies Rugby

Each province has a SANGORA Representative - details of these members to be found on the  Contact Us page.
